Reminder Tree Trimming

Dear Parkside Homeowners,

We sent an email to the community on July 9, 2026 about maintaining your trees, bushes, and plants out of the right of way, and it was very effective. Since then, many Parkside homeowners have taken the time to trim their trees, bushes, and plants that were growing into the right-of-way.

Thank you very much for your dedication to maintaining your property and helping improve our community. The neighborhood is looking better and, more importantly, safer for cars, trucks, pedestrians, and children.

In addition, the HOA completed its large annual tree-trimming project throughout the neighborhood and along the trail during July and August. We appreciate everyone's cooperation and support in keeping our community safe and well maintained.

There are still areas that need attention, and we are asking for your continued help. We are still seeing:

- Low-hanging tree limbs extending over streets and sidewalks - Dead or potentially hazardous trees in front yards - Bushes, plants, and other landscaping growing into sidewalks and obstructing pedestrians, strollers, and children's paths The streets where we continue to see the most issues are our larger streets, which have the greatest number of homes: National Park Blvd, Big Thicket Dr, Channel Island Dr, and Petrified Forest Dr.

As a friendly reminder, it is the homeowner's responsibility to maintain trees, bushes, and plants on their property, including those located within or extending into the right-of-way. This maintenance is the responsibility of the homeowner and is not the responsibility of the HOA or the City of Austin.

Please take a few minutes to review the information in the email below, as well as the attached PDF, and make arrangements to bring any trees, bushes, or plants on your property into compliance as soon as possible.

We greatly appreciate the homeowners who have already taken action. Your efforts make a noticeable difference in the appearance, safety, and overall quality of our neighborhood.

Parkside at Slaughter Creek

One of the best features of our community is our beautiful, mature trees. Years ago, when our trees were smaller, there was significantly less maintenance required, and they did not extend into sidewalks or streets. As our trees have matured, however, they require regular trimming and maintenance to remain safe and in compliance with City of Austin requirements and HOA restrictions.

We understand that maintaining mature trees requires time, effort, and expense, but it is an important responsibility of homeownership and is necessary to keep our neighborhood safe, attractive, and accessible for everyone.

HOA Tree-Trimming Project – Update

The HOA completed its annual tree-trimming project in July and August, including work in the HOA common areas and along the community trail.

Our tree service trimmed overgrown limbs and removed dead trees and branches where necessary for safety. We appreciate everyone's cooperation while the work was being completed, including observing any temporary trail closures, notices, and caution tape.

Homeowner Tree & Landscaping Maintenance

We are asking all Parkside homeowners to review their own trees, bushes, and landscaping and make arrangements for any necessary maintenance, particularly if vegetation is overgrown or extending into the public right-of-way.

Below is some helpful information and important reminders.

City of Austin Requirements

Please review the attached City of Austin information. In general:

- Tree limbs must be at least 14 feet above the street so trucks, school buses, delivery vehicles, fire trucks, and garbage collection vehicles can pass safely. - Tree limbs must be at least 8 feet above the sidewalk so pedestrians, strollers, and children can walk safely and freely. - Bushes, plants, and other vegetation cannot grow into or obstruct the sidewalk and must be trimmed back as necessary. - Homeowners are responsible for maintaining private trees and vegetation that grow into or obstruct the public right-of-way, including sidewalks and streets. - If the trunk of a tree is located on your private property, the tree is your responsibility. This includes ensuring that its limbs do not create a hazard for pedestrians, cyclists, or vehicles. - Trees located on your private property, including front and back yards, are the homeowner's responsibility. Our HOA CCRs also establish maintenance requirements for each property.

4.16 Lot Maintenance and Environmental Concerns: The Owner of each Lot shall maintain the same and adjacent street right-of-way and the improvements, sod, trees, hedges, fences and planting thereon, in a neat and attractive condition. Such maintenance shall include regular mowing, edging of turf areas, weeding of plant beds, fertilizing, weed control, and watering of the turf and landscape areas on each Lot. Diseased or dead plants or trees must be removed and replaced within a reasonable time.

Accordingly, if your trees, bushes, or other vegetation are not properly maintained or are obstructing the right-of-way, you may receive a violation notice requiring the issue to be corrected.

If you rent your home, please remember that the maintenance responsibility remains with the homeowner. Please make arrangements with your tenant or landscaping provider to ensure your property remains in compliance.

When Should You Trim Your Trees?

Oak wilt season officially ended on June 30. July, August, and September can be good months for tree maintenance, while late fall and winter—particularly November through January—can also be good times to plan and complete future tree work.

Please consult a qualified tree professional regarding the appropriate timing and method for trimming your specific trees.

Who Can Do the Work?

You have several options for maintaining your trees and landscaping:

- Trim your own trees and bushes if you are comfortable and qualified to do so. Helpful educational resources are available online. - Help a neighbor who may need assistance with basic landscaping maintenance. - Hire a qualified tree service or trained arborist of your choice. - Use the HOA's approved tree vendor, JP's Tree Service: 512-550-5978. Since 2024, JP's Tree Service has completed HOA-related tree work and has also provided tree services for 20+ Parkside homeowners. Please take the time to inspect your property and make arrangements to trim your trees, bushes, and other vegetation as needed to comply with City of Austin requirements and the HOA CCRs.

Maintaining your property helps avoid violations and potential fines, improves your home's curb appeal, and—most importantly—helps keep our streets, sidewalks, and neighborhood safer for pedestrians, children, cyclists, residents, and vehicles.
